Between 2015 and 2024, 54 final clearances were approved in Geneva, covering an area of 59,828 m². Only half of this was offset by replacement in nature. In the context of renaturation or agricultural conversion projects 5 cases were not compensated for in accordance with the Forest Act revised in 2013. The canton has introduced a methodology for prioritising the location of compensation sites based on ecological proximity, soil quality and integration into the ecological infrastructure. Within the framework of current legislation, Geneva is exploring ways of anticipating future needs, using major development projects as levers for forest structuring.
